It comes in galim...

In today’s world, where we’re constantly oversaturated with new content and information, it’s quite normal to feel overwhelmed with the task of navigating the complexity of, well, life.

The secret is that it comes in waves... in galim. The goal is not to simply reach a calm sea, but to have the tools to handle the troubled waters if and when the storm reaches us again.

While “therapy” might sound like a big scary word, all it means is a decision to nurture the part of yourself that needs an unbiased, caring ear to listen and help you unpack whatever is troubling you. More importantly, it is about bringing light to your inner strengths and identifying tools to overcome whatever life throws your way.

Through an informed lens of psychology and the study of the intangible forces that shape human behavior, we can work together to look inside and gain awareness into why you feel, think and behave the way you do… and how to use this knowledge to become the best version of you.

Mental Health Services, explained.

The field of mental health is varied and abundant, and so the terminology behind what kind of professional help is out there can get a bit confusing if you're seeking help for the first time.

For English-speakers in Israel, it gets even more muddy due to the inconsistency between professional licensing in mental health between Israel and other Anglo-countries such as the United States.

So here's a little bit of a breakdown:

A 'therapist,' or 'psychotherapist,' is a mental health professional who specializes in therapeutic treatment rooted in psychology to develop skills aimed to reduce emotional distress and cope with various life challenges. These professionals are distinguished by a degree and/or license and often the term "clinical" in front of their professional title: clinical psychologist, clinical mental health professional, clinical social worker.

Clinical Psychologist

  • trained to administer / interpret cognitive & personality tests, diagnose mental illness, and conduct psycho-therapy

  • recommended for clients with diagnoses or mental health concerns that heavily affect their ability to live a normal life

  • Note: psychiatrists are trained to medicate.

Clinical Expressive

Arts Therapist

  • work rooted in expressive therapeutic intervention (art, movement, music, dance, theater, writing), without the use of drugs

  • recommended for clients who have difficulty with verbal expression typical of talk therapy, such as children, trauma victims, autistic persons, elderly, as well as the average person with an affinity for creative expression over verbal communication

  • work rooted in growth-oriented mindsets and the personal philosophy of the particular coach

  • recommended for people who feel stuck in their will-power to create the future they envision for themselves through action steps rather than introspective therapeutic self-exploration

Clinical Social Worker

All of the above professionals within the wide-ranging field of mental health all intersect in their focus on understanding human behavior and promoting positive change within the scope of emotional, cognitive and mental wellness. Several can also inter-lap in training and therefore blur the strict lines between the professional titles - the field is fluid by nature.
